Store in air-tight container. You can keep the cookies soft by putting a fresh piece of bread in the container every day.

Ingredients

 ¾ cup Soft shortening
 1 cup Packed brown sugar
 1 Egg
 ¼ cup Molasses
 2 ¼ cups All-purpose flour
 2 tsp Baking soda
  tsp Salt
 ½ tsp Ground cloves
 1 tsp Cinnamon
 1 tsp Ginger
 Granulated sugar

Directions

Mix shortening, sugar, egg, and molasses thoroughly.

Stir together all dry ingredients and stir into egg mixture

Chill for at least 30 minutes.

Preheat oven to 375

Roll dough into 1 1/4 inch balls. Dip tops in sugar.

Place balls sugared side up, 3 inches apart on greased baking sheet.

Sprinkle each with 2 or 3 drops of wate

Bake 10 - 12 minutes or just until set but not hard.
